I was a noob. She was a veteran. She said she'd pay if I helped her and I said I'd help if I could. Her needs were many and my clues were few. Cue the GENIUS that is LA 411 and all the stress was laid to rest. A few flips here, a couple clicks there and phone calls were made, the budget was achieved and the production blossomed. Thank you LA 411. This noob is now gonna snooze down on a bench near veterans lane.

LA411 is considered one of the "industry bibles" to Streetlights and our PA's. We give an LA 411 directory to each one of our PA's and we tell them to keep it in their cars whenever they are working. We also encourage them to use the 411 online. LA 411 is MUST HAVE / MUST USE tool for anyone in production.

A Big Success for San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders made the commitment to meet with studio executives in LA with the San Diego Film Commission to pitch the advantages of filming in San Diego. During the ride to LA , the Mayor used the LA411 to look up his brother, Tom Sanders, an Academy Award nominated Production Designer. (pg 726) Getting advice from his brother, who was working in Louisiana, was priceless. We met with the heads of Disney, DreamWorks, Universal and Twentieth Century Fox. Although they all admitted their attraction to other states for the lucrative incentives, we had an opportunity to tell them how they will save money with our unique customized services. For example, we have an oral one- stop process for permitting with no paper work that includes all the experts at one table. Even changes to filming plans are fast, and efficient. The permit is free. The executives were impressed. No other Mayor has done this, not even the LA Mayor. They said having a Mayor present brings credibility, trust and they will send us scripts to budget. Following the trip, we secured a television series, because our Mayor cared enough about the film industry.

Success Story for the San Diego Film Commission Business is slow…no commercials and our freelancers need work. So, our Film Commission Foundation is raising funds to offer as a rebate to any commercial that has a budget of at least $25,000, films 75% of their commercial in San Diego and hires 50% local hires! We will give them up to $2000 in cash to reimburse fire, police, posting for no parking, rangers, etc. And under our Workforce Training Program we will give them a PA who will be a film intern or student filmmaker and has taken our PA Boot Camp workshop; the student will get a credit for their first job. We raise the funds simply - our supportive hotels and nightclubs host a party for 150 people with a hosted bar and hors d’oeuvres and we charge a $35 tax deductible donation. We have had 2 events and raised nearly $10,000 and our doors are open for business. We sent out postcards telling about our new commercial incentive to the LA411 Commercial Production Company List in the guide and we have had some great feedback. These are the movers and shakers in commercial production!
