Offlot shooting up again in L.A.

Location shoots increase 26% in sixth consecutive hike

Overall offlot activity increased 26%, and feature shoots last week totalled 180 permitted days, doubling the total for the same week in 2011, according to figures disclosed Tuesday by the FilmL.A. permitting agency.

Jason Bateman feature directorial debut "Bad Words" was the most active movie shoot with a dozen days. The indie comedy is produced by Bateman's Aggregate Films with Darko Entertainment, which is also financing the pic.

A trio of films -- "Victor," "Time Lapse" and "Life of a King" -- totalled 11 days each last week. Other features being shot locally included "American Bistro," "Broken Horses" and "Little Rascals."

TV shooting totalled 420 days, including offlot activity for "House of Lies," "CSI: NY," "Back to Skinny," "Freakshow" and "Plastic Wives."

The recent weekly year-to-year hikes of 18%, 23%, 19%, 12% and 8% have come after Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation on Sept. 29 to extend the tax credit program for two years, ensuring another $100 million in annual credits for productions shot in California.
