LONDON -- Blighty's Pinewood Studios has unveiled a 30,000 square foot purpose-built stage for film and TV production, which has been named the Richard Attenborough Stage.

It is the second largest stage at Pinewood and has increased stage capacity at the studios by 7%.

It is already being used to house Working Title and Universal's "Les Miserables," toplining Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway.

Pinewood, which has seen a number of large TV productions lense at the studios (such as "The Magicians" and "Got to Dance"), said the new stage would be fitting for both big pic productions and "large light entertainment TV shows."

David Puttnam and Pinewood chairman Michael Grade officially unveiled the new facility, which was announced in February 2011, on Monday.

"This new stage helps demonstrate Pinewood's ongoing commitment to improving its infrastructure, and offering both film and television clients the most up-to-date, flexible and secure facilities possible," said Pinewood chief exec Ivan Dunleavy.

"Les Miserables" construction co-ordinator Malcolm Roberts added: "Pinewood's new facility is a revolutionary stage with cutting-edge technology. Its lighting and access are a credit to the design."
